Various pieces of software have been released to help the ZX81 play sounds using the ZXpand-AY, and also to help design sounds for use with games and other software.
The AY Sound Design Tool - this allows you to set the frequency, volume and mixing (tone and noise) for each of the three channels to create noises for use within programs.
The ZXpand Sound Player - simply copy AY files (PT3 format files) into a directory on the ZXpand, and then run a short program to select and play each tune.
The ZX81 STC Sound Player - program to play STC format files on the ZX81
The ZX81 Sound Tracker - music editor and tracker
The ZX81 Sound Engine - for playing sounds direct to the AY interface, using BASIC
NOTE: STC can be edited and PT3 files can be created from other sound files, using Vortex Tracker II for Windows. A good tutorial for using Vortex Tracker II appears at:

Czyli odpalanie muzyki ze Spectrum na ZX81.
PS: Ja będę kupować. Zrobię zdjęcia, jak przyjdzie i zadziała. A także jakieś MP3.
